Mount Karasugasen from Kagamiganaru live camera

Beyond the grassland of the plateau a single sharp mountain stands up. The contrast between the flat foreground and that pointed outline is most of what this frame is.
Within this group of mountains, only this one is sharp. Where the main peak of Daisen has collapsed into broad slopes, Karasugasen is hard rock left standing like a tower, its 1,448-metre summit coming to a single point. Kagamiganaru in front is flat grassland at about 900 metres, so a pointed mountain stands immediately beyond a flat plain — a large drop for the distance involved.
Rock near the summit of this mountain gave way in the western Tottori earthquake of 2000, and the path up was closed for years; it reopened in 2016. Kagamiganaru in the foreground lies inside Daisen-Oki National Park, and its grassland is mostly silver grass. Snow here passes two metres, and in some years the surrounding roads close.
The colour of the grass changes, so the season shows plainly. Summer is green throughout, autumn is dead gold, winter is white with snow. The mountain's shape reads most clearly on a clear winter morning with snow on it.
