Bald eagle nest live camera — West Virginia
A sycamore on the grounds of a Fish and Wildlife Service training centre. The nest used for 22 years came down in an April 2025 windstorm, and the pair rebuilt about fifteen feet lower in the same tree. Three cameras run continuously. Chicks are there from winter into early summer; after they fledge it is an empty nest and a tree.

The bald eagle is the national bird of the United States. Numbers fell to the point of real alarm, then recovered after DDT was banned and protection came in. The same pair returns to the same nest each year and keeps adding sticks, so the nest grows season by season; more than two metres across is not unusual.
The season runs from winter into early summer. There is a stretch when a parent is sitting on eggs, a stretch when chicks are showing their heads over the rim, and a stretch after fledging when the nest is empty — the content of the frame changes completely with the calendar. Open it out of season and all you get is a very large pile of sticks.
A rough calendar helps. A clutch is one to three eggs and incubation takes about 35 days; a chick then needs another 10 to 12 weeks before it can fly. So a nest with a bird sitting on it in February should be empty by June. What DDT did was not to kill the adults outright but to thin the eggshells, so that they broke under the weight of the sitting bird. The species came off the endangered list in 2007.
