Changhua plain from Baguashan live camera

The view from a low hill behind the city of Changhua. It faces west, so sunset and night view come one after the other.

What you are looking at

In the sample frame, under a hazy sky, the Changhua plain runs flat to the horizon with low buildings packed across it. An elevated road crosses the middle distance and a pylon stands on the left. The bottom edge is dark with the canopy of the hill.

A view from the low hill behind the city of Changhua. Bagua Shan faces west, so the sunset and then the night view can be watched in sequence. The hill is under 100 metres, and a 22-metre Buddha stands at the top.

Taiwan is only one hour behind Japan: six in the evening there is 7pm here, eight in the evening there is 9pm here. Open it after dinner in Japan and you arrive at the turn from sunset into night view.

Baguashan is less a hill than the northern end of a tableland running north to south. The table is a raised mass of sand and gravel, and because its western side drops away sharply to the plain, a low summit still commands the view. The Changhua plain in front was laid down by sediment from the Zhuoshui River, which is why it is as flat as it is. A battle was fought on this hill in 1895, the largest to take place on open ground during the Japanese takeover of Taiwan.

When the air over the city hazes over, the mountains behind disappear and only the plain is left. Mornings haze easily, as in the sample. At night the lights spread right across the plain and the picture is nothing like the daytime one.
