What you are looking at

A 360-degree panorama taken from the roof of the visitor centre. The building’s tiled roofs cross the lower half of the frame, with lawn and a red-roofed building beyond, and limestone mountains standing to left and right. Cloud often wraps their middle slopes.

Taroko is a national park known for its marble gorge, and the valley cut by the Liwu river begins just past here. The camera is not deep in the gorge but at the mouth you are about to enter. Because it is a 360-degree camera the sides of the frame are stretched wide, and the lines of the roofs bend into arcs.

Taiwan is only one hour behind Japan and has no summer time.

With so much sky in the frame, an overcast day easily turns the upper half all white. To see the shape of the valley, a clear day that casts shadows shows it far better.
