Fenqihu live camera — Fenqihu, Chiayi

A mountain village around a mid-line station on the forest railway. There is no lake here; the name likens the basin, ringed by hills on three sides, to one.

What you are looking at

In the sample frame a wooden station hall with a large dark roof stands at the centre under a blue sky. Track curves away behind it and houses stack up the slope. Bougainvillea is in flower, and there are parked scooters and a road to the right.

A mountain village with an intermediate station on the forest railway. There is no lake: the name reads the bowl of mountains on three sides as one. It sits at roughly 1,400 metres, is known for its railway lunch boxes, and the area in front of the hall fills up around midday.

Taiwan is only one hour behind Japan, noon there being 1pm here, and there is no summer time.

The boxed meal sold in front of the station is pork ribs in a wooden box. Along the track there is an old street of shops leading away from the station, where the eaves and the rails stand at the same height. The whole line from Chiayi up to Alishan became through-runnable again in 2024, and the bustle has returned to this intermediate stop.

Being a camera on a village, the movement of people and vehicles gives you the passing of the day. After dark only the street lights remain and the shape of the mountains is gone. Even the number of scooters parked in the sample is a rough guide to whether anyone is about at that hour.
